Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott have ended their five-year relationship.
The couple, who traveled the world together and even built a home, have decided to part ways after growing apart over time.
In a sign of their increasing distance, Sam, 32, spent New Year’s Eve celebrating with his ex-Made In Chelsea co-stars Reza Amiri-Garroussi and Josh Patterson at London’s Kensington Roof Gardens, while Zara, 28, spent the evening at home with her cats. They also spent separate Christmases—Sam volunteered for charity, while Zara stayed with family in Upminster, Essex.
Their time apart began earlier when Sam worked in Australia on the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Unpacked’ spinoff, while Zara focused on her BBC documentaries and the launch of her clothing line, Rise.
A source close to the couple told MailOnline: “It’s been an incredibly difficult decision. They still care deeply for each other, but after a tough year, they’ve decided to focus on their individual careers in 2025.” There was no scandal or fallout; the split was simply the result of a challenging year that kept them focused on their own projects.
Despite their breakup, Sam and Zara maintained a strong bond, evident in their last public appearance in December, celebrating Zara’s birthday. Sam even posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, calling her his “soulmate.” However, the following week, Sam was seen out at a strip club with TOWIE’s Pete Wicks, which raised eyebrows.
Sam and Zara, who shared two cats, Albus and Cedric, had been living together in Sam’s west London home. They remain close with their families, including Sam’s sister Louise and her family, who live nearby.
Both Sam and Zara McDermott are continuing to thrive in their careers. Sam recently co-hosted the ‘I’m A Celebrity’ spinoff in Australia and landed a new presenting role on ‘This Morning.’ Zara, known for her appearance on ‘Love Island’ in 2018, has made a name for herself as a documentary maker and launched her own clothing line. Despite their personal challenges, both have stayed focused on their professional success.
