OpenAI cut ChatGPT price Reliance partnership
OpenAI and Meta are in talks with Reliance Industries about a possible partnership, according to a report by The Information. OpenAI cut ChatGPT price is reportedly discussing the possibility of Reliance Jio distributing ChatGPT in India.
Additionally, the Sam Altman-led company is also said to be discussing cutting the subscription price of ChatGPT by 75 to 85 percent from the current $20 model.
Reliance wants to host OpenAI models locally:
Reliance has reportedly discussed the possibility of selling OpenAI models to its enterprise users via an application programming interface, or API. The Indian conglomerate is also said to be discussing the possibility of hosting and running OpenAI’s models locally, to ensure that Indians’ data can be kept within the country.
The Mukesh Ambani-led company has reportedly discussed the possibility of running both OpenAI and Meta models locally through a three-gigawatt data center it plans to build in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Reliance’s plans for world’s largest data center in Jamnagar:
According to an earlier Bloomberg report, Reliance plans to build a 3-gigawatt data center in Jamnagar, which would be several times the size of the largest data center today.
Data centres are measured in megawatts, which indicates the total power they can supply to servers, cooling and infrastructure. More MW means more computing power, which is crucial for handling intensive workloads.
Ambani is reportedly buying Nvidia‘s AI semiconductors for the facility. The two companies had announced a partnership to build infrastructure for AI applications in India during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to the country in October last year.
Notably, OpenAI was the first company to leap into the generative AI race with the public rollout of ChatGPT in late 2022. Since then, the company had received a lot of competition from the likes of Meta, Google, Anthropic and even Elon Musk’s xAI. However, ChatGPT had remained the most popular AI chatbot until the arrival of China’s DeepSeek, which not only offered the capabilities but at a fraction of the cost.
Since then, OpenAI has been in overdrive to consolidate its position with the launch of the new GPT 4.5 language model, the introduction of the O3 Mini reasoning model – even for free users – and the release of the Deep Search AI agent.
