Government demolishes four more bunkers in Kurram

Authorities in Kurram district have demolished four more bunkers as part of ongoing efforts to enforce a local peace agreement, while rival factions are set to hold a second round of talks in Peshawar today, according to Express News.

According to district officials, the removal of bunkers is proceeding as agreed, with the latest demolitions taking place in Balish Khel and Anarkali using explosives.

So far, a total of 26 bunkers have been dismantled, with further operations ongoing.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the Kohat peace accord, which aims to stabilise the region. Measures such as escorted convoys are also being introduced to ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, sources told Express News that after a key meeting in Islamabad, rival factions will meet again in Peshawar for further negotiations.

The first discussions covered security concerns and the misuse of social media.

The upcoming jirga will focus on detailed peace talks and confidence-building measures between the opposing groups.

Police officer martyred from injuries in Kurram attack on AC

Previously, a police officer was injured in an attack on the Assistant Commissioner in Kurram has succumbed to his injuries.

Police sources confirmed the death of the police officer, according to an Express News report.

On January 31 in Upper Kurram, three police officers, including the Assistant Commissioner of Kurram, were injured in a firing incident targeting a government convoy that was heading to mediate a ceasefire between two tribes.

The SHO stated that while the district administration had successfully mediated a ceasefire in Upper Kurram, the convoy, which was sent to negotiate with the other party, came under fire.

The Assistant Commissioner of Kurram, Manan, who was leading the convoy, was wounded in the attack.

The police reported that the Assistant Commissioner was heading to Boshhera to maintain peace and order when firing was opened from the direction of Fatah Khel, Express News reported.

According to the police, three other officers were also injured in the shooting, and the injured Assistant Commissioner, Revenue Officer Saeed Manan, was shifted to the operation theatre.
