Dwayne, Emily, Leonardo to star in Martin Scorsese next crime drama
Martin Scorsese , at 83, shows no signs of slowing down as he prepares for his next big project—a film that is expected to draw inspiration from his iconic ‘Goodfellas’.
According to Deadline, the untitled drama is poised to feature a star-studded cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The screenplay, written by Nick Bilton, will be produced by Scorsese, Johnson, DiCaprio, Blunt, and Bilton, with additional producers including Danny Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.
The plot of the film, which has drawn comparisons to ‘Goodfellas’, centers around a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, replacing Robert De Niro‘s role with a new and formidable character. Based on a real-life individual, this crime boss is working to build the largest criminal empire in Hawaii, all while waging a war against mainland corporations, rival syndicates, and fighting to protect his ancestral land. Set against the backdrop of the 1960s and 1970s, the film will explore a turbulent chapter in Hawaii’s history.
Johnson is likely to play the crime boss, a role that aligns with his Pacific Islander heritage. If the project comes to fruition, it would mark yet another collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio, who have teamed up on numerous films, including ‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘.
