Carice van Houten
Carice van Houten, known for her role as the “Red Woman” Melisandre in ‘Game of Thrones’, has confirmed that she and Guy Pearce are no longer in a relationship.
The actress shared an update about their personal life on her Instagram Story on January 22, revealing that the couple had been broken up for some time. Her post followed comments Pearce made in a recent interview, where he described his ex-wife, Kate Mestitz, as the greatest love of his life.
Van Houten explained that she typically keeps her private life out of the public eye, but felt the need to clarify the situation after the media speculated about her relationship with Pearce. “We’re great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years,” she wrote. She also expressed regret for not sharing this information sooner.
The former couple, who first met in 2015, share an eight-year-old son, Monte, born in 2016. Van Houten emphasized their positive co-parenting relationship and their dedication to raising their child together. “We are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives—our beautiful son,” she said, humorously adding, “and his hamster.”
Although the timing of their breakup remains unclear, van Houten’s statement came after Pearce’s comments to ‘The Guardian’, where he reflected on his past relationship with Mestitz. Pearce admitted to feeling devastated over mistakes he made in his marriage but now finds his greatest love in his child. Pearce and Mestitz were married for 18 years before divorcing in 2015.
Van Houten and Pearce began dating shortly after his divorce, and they welcomed their son in 2016. Despite their split, the two remain close and committed to co-parenting their son.
