Seventeen tons of military power slowly rolls over and crushes a car, splashing through the mud and kicking up dirt.
That’s how U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army veteran Theron Lorimor spent his 50th birthday — driving a FV433 Abbot military tank through hills and ditches at Tank America in Orlando.
“It was fun to be able to do this without being in a hostile environment,” said Theron, of Ormond Beach. “Once I sat back in the tank, you get the feel of it real quick.”
More than 1.4 million veterans call Florida home. They and anyone else who wants to get a taste of military life for a few hours have plenty of options throughout the state. Whether it’s riding in a tank, firing a gun, playing combat paintball or riding in a fighter jet, you can experience the thrills without the danger.
