Amid reports of recast voice actors for Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Citadelle des Morts map, Activision has responded with a statement that left many fans seeking clarity.

The issue arises as the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike highlights concerns over generative AI and its implications for performers.

Since 2009, Julie Nathanson has voiced Samantha Maxis in six Call of Duty titles, while Zeke Alton portrayed William Peck in Cold War and BO6. Fans discovered that the familiar characters in the new map appear to have different voice actors, sparking widespread speculation.

Zeke Alton, addressing the matter in an interview with Game Developer, said, “To the best of my knowledge, that performance is not mine. My concern is for my brand as a performer. The lack of proper crediting implies it may still be me, which misrepresents my abilities.”

When asked about returning to the franchise, Alton expressed hope. “I sincerely hope to collaborate in the future once performers are protected against generative AI abuse.”

In response to the controversy, Activision stated, “We respect the personal choices of these performers. Out of respect for all parties, we won’t add commentary on ongoing SAG-AFTRA negotiations. We look forward to a mutually beneficial outcome soon.”

The strike, which began on July 25, 2024, underscores SAG-AFTRA’s demand for written protections against AI abuse. As negotiations stall, the future of many voice roles remains uncertain.

A Call of Duty 2025 leak teased the return of the original Zombies cast, but whether the strike will affect this remains unclear. Meanwhile, Citadelle des Morts continues to draw attention, both for its gameplay and the evolving dialogue around performers’ rights.
