Seventeen more terrorists were killed during a sanitisation operation conducted by security forces near the Hassan Khel area of North Waziristan, along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.
According to the ISPR statement, the latest operation took place overnight between April 27 and 28, following successful engagements where security forces had killed 54 militants during operations from April 25 to 27.
The military’s media wing stated that the neutralised terrorists were operating at the behest of “Indian masters” and were actively plotting attacks inside Pakistan.
The number of Khawarij eliminated during the three-day anti-infiltration operation has risen to 71, the statement added.
Security forces also recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives during the operation. The ISPR reaffirmed that the military remains determined to secure the country’s borders and counter all efforts aimed at destabilising Pakistan.
Previously, on Sunday, security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt by militants near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The militants’ movements were detected during the nights of April 25-26 and 26-27, leading to a prolonged armed engagement. Intelligence reports suggested that the group intended to carry out significant attacks within Pakistan, allegedly under instructions from external actors.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their successful operation, describing it as a strong testament to Pakistan’s progress in the war against terrorism.
In an official statement, the PM commended the troops for their “remarkable professionalism and timely action,” highlighting their success in repelling an infiltration attempt by Fitna al Khwarij terrorists from across the Afghan border in the Hassan Khel area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
“The entire nation stands firmly with our security forces in the fight against terrorism,” he said, reaffirming that Pakistan’s armed forces remain “resolute in defending the country’s borders and eradicating the scourge of terrorism.”
